HAIM gets their groove back with perky bop 'Little Of Your Love.'

Maybe there’s still hope for 2019 (at least from a musical perspective). Lana Del Rey finally got around to announcing the release date of Norman Fucking Rockwell and HAIM returns with the first taste of their third LP. Co-produced by Rostam Batmanglij and Ariel Rechtshaid, “Summer Girl” is light and breezy on the surface. “L.A. on my mind, I can’t breathe,” Danielle Haim coos over a loose, jazzy arrangement. “You’re there when I close my eyes, so hard to reach.” That takes us to the simple chorus: “I’m your summer girl.”

While the song might sound like a wispy daydream, it was inspired by a real-life nightmare. “I started the song when I found out my partner had cancer,” Danielle explains. “I was on tour and felt like I was trying to send positive energy his way almost telepathically. Whenever I would come home in between shows I wanted to be his sunshine – his summer when he was feeling dark.” That comes through in the Paul Thomas Anderson-directed video, which finds the band shedding clothes as they walk around LA landmarks like Canters Deli and the New Beverly Cinema.
