Tori Kelly Is Stuck Between “2 Places” On Earnest New Single

Tori Kelly is kicking off the month with the gift of new music. The 26-year-old is dropping her third LP Inspired By True Events next Friday (August 9). In the meantime, she’s keeping us on the edge of our seat with another taste of the tracklist. Today, the hitmaker rolled out her new single “2 Places,” which details the feeling of having her heart pulled in multiple directions. “These days I keep finding myself caught in between. Am I awake or am I walking in my sleep,” she sings on the earnest track. “I’m in between the two, standing still and on the run. Don’t know what to do, I’m in two places at once.”

She opened up about the song and its inspiration in an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1. “I grew up having a really close family,” Tori explained. “Then getting married and kind of starting my own family… there was a lot of stuff that on one end, it felt very dramatic. And then on another end it was just ‘this is just growing up.'” She had a bit to say about Inspired By True Events, too. “This whole album really has a theme I think of just vulnerability and it’s definitely the most vulnerable album I’ve ever done, the most raw and just … I really just poured my whole heart and soul into it,” she admitted.

“And I wrote most of the album with a guy named Jimmy Napes and he really just held my hand through the whole process because some of the sessions felt like therapy really, and just really opening up.” Based on what we’ve heard so far, it is shaping up to be very special.
