Wrabel is playing with fire on his collaboration with Louis The Child. The singer/songwriter links up with the Chicago natives on “Too Much.” Out today (August 9), the track is an ode to unrequited love and a backup plan gone wrong. On it, the 30-year-old cops to developing romantic feelings for a longtime friend. “We used to say maybe one day there’d be more to this friendship. But we always say shit like ‘at 45, if we’re both single, I’d get you that diamond and propose at that diner,'” he sings. There’s a catch, though.

That friend isn’t single anymore. “I don’t let you know. It kills me every time he takes you home,” Wrabel admits. He opens up about the challenging situation as the beats picks up on the chorus. “‘Cause it feels like we’re just too close. Too close for comfort. How can I be your friend when I wanna be your lover?” The “love to love you” crooner is even more direct on the gut-wrenching bridge. “I want you, I want you. You want another,” he forlornly repeats. Paired with a catchy and deceptively uplifting production, this has all the makings to be a serious hit.

With any luck, Louis The Child is about to land another “Better Not”-sized smash. Hopefully they’ll also welcome Wrabel onstage to play “Too Close” with them on their just-announced Here For Now Tour. Press play on their new single below and check out tour dates here.
