The lineup of performers for the 2019 VMAs is beginning to take shape. It feels as though news about the awards show has been coming a little slowly this year. Prior to today (August 13), we only knew Taylor Swift and Missy Elliott (the Video Vanguard Award recipient) were due to grace the stage at New Jersey’s Prudential Center on August 26. With only 13 days to go, MTV picked up the pace by announcing a significantly larger list of talented performers. That includes the likes of Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, J Balvin, Lizzo, Bad Bunny, Lil Nas X and Rosalía.

There are several things to keep an eye on moving into the show. Firstly, it will be interesting to see if Shawn and Camila are performing “Señorita.” The slinky bop is up for several awards so it makes sense that they’d take the stage together. However, they may also use the opportunity to promote new material. This also marks Lil Nas X’s first performance at a major awards show since breaking the record for the longest-running number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Will “Old Town Road” still be on top by the end of the month? If not will he perform something else?

We’ll have to wait and see. Either way, it is nice that the VMAs are making a concentrated effort to stack the show with a mix of newer and more established acts. That being said, there are a couple glaring absences. That includes multi-nominees such as Jonas Brothers, Billie Eilish, BTS and Halsey. Perhaps there is another announcement on the way? In the meantime, check out the latest wave below.
