Lewis Capaldi Interview
We speak to the Brit about his debut LP and breakout hit, 'Someone You Loved.'

Lewis Capaldi caught lightning in a bottle with “Someone You Loved.” The gut-wrenching ballad became a streaming phenomenon in late 2018, before conquering the charts in Europe earlier this year. (The song spent a whopping seven weeks at number one in the UK). It took a little longer for the Brit’s breakthrough hit to click in North America, but it’s currently making up for lost time. “Someone You Loved” recently cracked the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100, and is projected to soar a lot higher in the weeks to come.

How do you follow up one of the biggest hits of the year? Well, you simply release another one. Lewis rolled out “Hold Me While You Wait” as the next single from Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent and prompted landed another smash in the UK. [“It’s] a song I wrote about the uncertainty of being in a relationship when your partner isn’t sure what they want,” the 22-year-old explains. “There’s an impending hopelessness to the whole thing, on both sides, when they’re not sure whether they want to be in that relationship or not.”

“For me, it’s one of the most desperate places you can find yourself in,” Lewis concludes. That desperation comes through in the black-and-white video. Directed by Pilgrim, the clip finds the breakout star performing the ballad in front of a series of gloomy projections. Watch him in action below.
