Charli XCX’s generosity has been unparalleled in 2019. The 27-year-old is gearing up to drop her self-titled, third album next month. In the meantime, the pop-saving angel’s treated us to one bop after another. There’s been collabs with Lizzo, BTS, Brooke Candy and Christine And The Queens to name as few as well as a Spice Girls cover. Last week she linked up with Sky Ferreira on “Cross You Out.” Today (August 23), she joins the New Music Friday lineup once again. This time she lends her voice “Miss U” for the soundtrack to the third season of 13 Reasons Why.

On it, the “1999” diva offers an unexpectedly candid and painfully relatable exploration of heartbreak. “I love you. It’s obvious, but people can change. We got bruised. We left things undecided, and now we’re two people,” she realizes over mournful synths. The track deals with the fallout but also recognizes the bond that she will never be able to totally erase. It’s appropriately moody to gel with Netflix’s mega-popular drama but also strong enough that it likely deserves a proper single release. Give “Miss U” a listen below and let me know if you agree.
