Rence Follows Up “Expensive” With The Equally Catchy “Darkside”

Rence is definitely One To Watch. After generating huge buzz with self-released tracks like “Baby Blue” and “Ways To Go,” the 21-year-old signed a major label deal with Epic Records. And he came out swinging with “Expensive.” An instantly catchy collaboration with Noah Cyrus, it served as the perfect introduction to his upcoming debut EP (out this fall). Rence now follows it up with an equally addictive and similarly genre-busting bop called “Darkside.”
“But I was caught in the undertow, she was on my arm at the after show,” our antihero admits at the start of the song. “still I didn’t feel like you had to know.” The track, which falls somewhere between R&B and alt-pop, comes alive on the chorus. “Swear I’m a nice guy caught in some white lies, I know there’s a fine line between me and you,” Rence sings. “Because in the night time I turn a blind eye, I got a dark side.” What’s it about? “I wrote it questioning the kind of person I’ve been and wondering at what point does that start to change,” he explains. “The song is real-time honesty.” Listen to the newcomer’s confession below.
