Charli XCX Links Up With HAIM On New Single “Warm”

Another week, another bop courtesy of Charli XCX. The pop-saving earth angel has been incredibly generous in the lead-up to her third album. Charli drops in two weeks (September 13). In the meantime, she’s graced us with five songs since the start of July. Today (August 30) she makes it six with the release of her HAIM collab “Warm.” Why is she joining yet another New Music Friday lineup? Quite simply because she was bored. And we’re lucky because, once again, she’s got another gem on her hands.

The “Gone” diva has been going through it on nearly every single off the new LP. And “Warm” is no exception. This time around Charli is dealing with matters of the heart. “You gotta tell me the reason why we can’t fall in love. You gotta tell me the reason why you won’t open up,” she sings over fluttery electronica. “Now I’mma send you to heaven, tequila on your tongue. You gotta tell me the reason why we can’t fall in love.” The “Summer Girl” sisters join her for an equally lovestruck verse.

Then they come together. “Fall in love. Risk it all,” Charli urges as a choir builds up over tight synths. It’s a magical effect that paints a lovely image of what could come to pass with just a little chance. Hopefully Charli is feeling equally bored this time next week. The thought of going too much longer without another taste of the tracklist is too much to handle. At this point, it is abundantly clear this will be one of the best pop projects of 2019.
