Premiere: Delacey’s Emotional Video For “The Subway Song”
Delacey (real name Brittany Amaradio) ranks as one of 2019’s breakout talents thanks to the raw, bluesy “My Man.” Her hot streak continues with “The Subway Song,” a track the singer/songwriter recorded in NYC with Ido Zmishlany after suffering a bout of homesickness and heartbreak on the subway. “Take me home, I feel homesick; I don’t know where I’m going,” she sings over a train-like rhythm on the chorus. “Too many faces, but none I know and I’m alone on the subway home.”
A stickler for authenticity, Delacey recorded the vocals in a subway station. That attention to detail is also reflected in the video, which finds the newcomer recreating her emotional hell-ride. “It was really important to me to keep the video for ‘The Subway Song’ intimate and organic,” she explains. “I wanted it to feel like the night that I wrote this song, which was me crying on a subway on the way home.” She turned to Aysia Marotta to help capture the mood. “Me and my friend, who is an amazing videographer, walked around the city. She filmed me singing and crying and we got stared at the whole time. The video conveys everything I wanted it to.”
