For Real? Nicki Minaj Announces Plans To Retire From Music

Well, this is most certainly not what you’d call a Barbie dream. Nicki Minaj interrupted our regularly scheduled programming to announce her retirement. What was her reasoning? Starting a family, presumably with boyfriend Kenneth Petty who she announced plans to marry on a recent episode of Queen Radio. The rapper broke her latest news in a very direct message on Twitter. “I’ve decided to retire & have my family,” she wrote. “I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, [X] in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me.”

Unsurprisingly, Barbz rallied in the replies while looking for clarification. Some called on friend and frequent collaborator Ariana Grande to run interference. Others cited seemingly prophetic lyrics from The Pinkprint’s “All Things Go,” which alluded to Nicki’s desire for children. Others (myself included) wondered if this may be a joke or clever ruse leading up to the release of a new LP. Thankfully, the 36-year-old hopped back online to shed some light on the statement. “In hindsight, this should’ve been a Queen Radio discussion & it will be. I promise u guys will be happy,” she added.

“The tweet was abrupt & insensitive, I apologize babe.” Her replies to fans also makes it a little unclear when said retirement begins. One message she shared mentions a fifth album. Perhaps this means Nicki will step away after blessing our ears with a little more material? That would make sense, since it seems like she’s been chipping away at a follow-up to Queen for a while now. I guess we’ll have to wait for her to clear the air. In the meantime, check out her tweets below and let us know what you think.
