Kiiara’s “Open My Mouth” was one of the best pop songs of the summer. And the 24-year-old is going into the fall with another hit on her hands. Today (September 6), she returns with new single “Bipolar.” The second taste of her forthcoming debut album is another confessional anthem. This time around she’s dealing with the soaring highs and crushing lows of an unhealthy relationship. “I guess our love’s a little bipolar. I think that’s what’s making us closer,” she admits on the chorus. “And when I hate you, I really fucking hate you. So kiss me and remind me why I even started dating you.”

“Bipolar is about the ups and downs in a relationship,” Kiiara explained in a press release. “It’s that feeling you get when one person is all in and the other is out, and the roles switch constantly. That back and forth can be exciting and addicting, because it’s intense! It’s a high we all crave. But are we just addicted to the drama,” she asked. “It’s hard to let go, even when you know it’s toxic and unhealthy. You might think that such intensity means you’re in love, but if you truly cared about one another you wouldn’t be putting each other through such turmoil.”

“That’s not love. It feels like love, like glitter and fireworks, but it’s more like being in the middle of a tornado. This is a real thing people go through. It’s brushed off, and I think it should be talked about more, especially in my generation.” The “Gold” siren paired the track with an equally emotional and candidly vulnerable video.
