Max Martin’s Biggest Hits Are Reimagined For ‘& Juliet’ Musical

Max Martin is responsible for some of the biggest pop hits in recent memory. The Swedish mastermind’s name is on the credits for more than 20 songs that topped the Billboard Hot 100 since 1999. That list includes Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time,” Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” and Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop The Feeling.” But that barely touches the surface of his incredible discography. And we’re about to hear some of his most iconic smashes in a whole new way with the launch of & Juliet.

What’s that? & Juliet is a West End musical that picks up where Romeo & Juliet left off. And it does so by putting a fresh spin on some of Martin’s very recognizable material. All of the above-mentioned bops have been reimagined for the score. And they’re in good company. Other songs that make the cut include Ariana Grande’s “Break Free,” Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone,” Pink’s “F**kin’ Perfect,” and *NSYNC’s “It’s Gonna Be Me.” Of course, with such a massive catalogue there were bound to be a couple songs missing. Where is “Into You,” for instance?!

However, the final list offers an expansive glimpse at some of Max Martin’s beloved work. And here’s the best part. Fans who won’t be able to see the musical in person will be able to hear the music on an official album. The collection, announced yesterday (September 10), arrives November 20. That’s the same day & Juliet premieres at London’s Shaftesbury Theatre. And the first single (an update on Katy Perry’s “Roar”) is already out.
