The time has come! Last month we learned Sam Smith and Renée Zellweger teamed up for a cover of Judy Garland’s “Get Happy.” Today (September 24), we are finally getting to hear their rendition of the beloved standard. And it was definitely worth the wait. Laying their vocals over a joy-inducing production, the pair delivers a faithful take on the serotonin-raising anthem. It’s nice to hear the easy chemistry they find and the respect they pay to the timeless classic. The “How Do You Sleep” star opened up about the opportunity in a press release.

“It was truly an honour to sing with Renée,” they gushed. Their rendition the track lands on the soundtrack for Judy. The upcoming film (due September 27) stars Renée as the iconic entertainer and focuses on a string of her concerts in London during the 1960s. In the role, she will reimagine several more songs including an already-released version of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.” The soundtrack, which drops alongside the film, features an additional collaboration with Rufus Wainwright. He signed on for a reworked version of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.”

Sam had even more to say about the opportunity to work with Renée. “Nobody could have played Judy as well as Renée, and it is a career highlight for me to be singing with her, and in some small way, with Judy,” they said. Press play on their updated take on “Get Happy” below.
