Flume teams up with Canadian singer Kai for electro-anthem 'Never Be Like You.'

EDIT: The post has been updated with Flume’s trippy “Rushing Back” video, which was directed by longtime collaborator Jonathan Zawada. Watch it below.

Flume is having a productive 2019. So far, the producer has dropped a collaborative EP with Reo Cragun called Quits, a mixtape and the stand-alone single, “Let You Know.” It turns out, they were just laying the groundwork for “Rushing Back.” After debuting the song at Osheaga, Flume finally rolls out the studio version and it’s even more majestic than the festival mix. In fact, it finds the sweet spot between pop and glitchy electronica in the same way that “Never Be Like You” did in 2016.

“Sometimes I dream about going back, keeping all the things I left behind,” Australia’s Vera Blue begins the song angelically. “But now I know you can’t change the past, way too young to know the reason why.” The soft and ethereal synthscape takes a hard left on the chorus. “And it all comes rushing back, rushing back,” Vera chants over Flume’s trademark bleeps, distortion and squiggles. It’s a weird and wonderful genre experiment that absolutely works. Listen to the potential crossover hit below.
