Katy Perry Switches It Up With Soft & Sexy “Harleys In Hawaii”
After delivering a double dose of emotional pure-pop with “Never Really Over” and “Small Talk,” Katy Perry switches it up with a soft and sexy bop called “Harleys In Hawaii.” Don’t be fooled by the title. This isn’t an exercise in kitsch. Instead, it’s a mid-tempo earworm that finds our heroine in the throws of tropical passion. “You and I-ai, riding Harleys in Hawaii-ai-ai,” she purrs on the chorus. “I’m on the back I’m holding tight-ai, want you to take me for a ride.” Ok, so there’s a sprinkling of camp.
“When I hula hula, hula, so good you’ll take me to the jeweler, jeweler, jeweler,” the pop icon continues. “There’s pink and purple in the sky, we’re riding Harleys in Hawaii.” Co-written with Charlie Puth, Johan Carlsson and Jacob Kasher (the team behind “Small Talk”), “Harleys In Hawaii” is a refreshingly grown pop song. That is also reflected by the video. Filmed on location in Hawaii by Barcelona-based film studio Manson, the clip plays more like Lana Del Rey’s “Ride” than your standard, candy-colored KP visual.
