Ariana & Victoria's 'Monopoly'
Ariana Grande teams up with Victoria Monét for new song 'Monopoly.'

In addition to being Ariana Grande’s go-to songwriter (her fingerprints are all over Thank U, Next), Victoria Monét is also an accomplished artist in her own right. Which is finally being recognized thanks to her newfound exposure. After sharing vocal duties with Ari on “Monopoly,” the R&B singer now rolls out a slinky bop of her own. Just don’t be misled by the titled. “Ass Like That” isn’t about objectification, it’s about inspiration — namely to take care of yourself.

“Met him about 2 months ago, said his name was gym and that he’d make me better than before,” Victoria begins the D’Mile and BREGMA-produced song. “So we work it out everyday, we be makin’ heads turn slow.” That effort has clearly paid off by the time the chorus arrives. “He wanna know how she get that ass like that, that ass like that,” she sings. “With them everyday squats.” The breakout star elaborated on the lyrics on YouTube. “I had goals I wanted to accomplish in the gym,” Victoria begins.

“Not just for the look, but also for new personal challenges to overcome daily, for discipline and for the health of the only true home I’ll have forever.” She also had an ulterior motive. “I wanted to be strong enough to talk about my own body the way men do in many rap songs,” Victoria continues. “I reserve and deserve the right to talk about it, with or without the world’s approval, because they never asked for mine. They never ask for ours. I hope this song inspires more women to feel good about the personal goals they set.”
