Martin Garrix & Dean Lewis Come Together For “Used To Love”
From the Bebe Rexha-voiced “In The Name Of Love” to the more recent “Ocean” featuring Khalid, Martin Garrix has the Midas Touch when it comes to crossover dance-pop collaborations. The Dutch DJ now teams up with Dean Lewis for an emotional banger called “Used To Love.” “Walking through the door of this old and lonely place that used to feel like us,” the Aussie singer/songwriter sings over piano keys and strummed guitar. “Remembering the only thing that made me feel like I was worth the love.”
The synths soon arrive to propel the chorus into the stratosphere. “But you will never be left behind, give me a moment — I need just a little more time,” Dean pleads. “If I could, I would have made things right, but we can’t go back to the way that we used to love.” How did the song come together? “Since my career began, collaborations never felt like something I saw myself pursuing,” the “Be Alright” hitmaker admits. “As a songwriter, who also sings, the entire concept just felt foreign. Until I met Martin.”
“We spent about a week together locked behind closed doors in Amsterdam working on a song, which thought might end up be sung by someone else,” Dean continues. “But as the track progressed is started to sound a lot like me, but also very Martin.
