It’s Here! Jason Derulo Drops First Half Of His ‘2Sides’ Album

Jason Derulo has big plans for the remainder of 2019. He’s closing out the year alongside the likes of Taylor Swift and Jennifer Hudson with a starring role in the big-screen adaptation of Cats. That arrives December 20. But first we’re getting new music. Today (November 8) the crooner returns with 2Sides (Side 1). And the first half of his long-awaited fifth album is overflowing with bangers. That’s obvious from the moment you hit play on lead track “F It Up,” which boasts a horn-riddled production and an unfairly catchy beat. If this gets the full single treatment, it could very easily notch the 30-year-old another “Talk Dirty”-sized hit.

From there, the bops just keep coming. He links up with Stefflon Don on “Talk About Us” and calls down a feature from Ty Dolla $ign on “Best Friend.” The former is another standout as the collaborators open up about relationship woes over deceptively breezy beats. As the title suggests, “Talk With Your Body” is a predictably sexy anthem built around a supersized chorus and irresistible breakdown. It’s a floor-filler to say the least. Thematically, “Be The One” and the closer “Diamonds” emerge as the collection’s romantic pinnacles. The latter is a personal favorite with an arrangement that reminds me of a broken down music box.
