Overcoats captured everyone’s attention with their critically-adored 2017 debut LP, YOUNG. After a two-year break, the Brooklyn-based alt-pop duo returned in September with a banger called “The Fool.” A riotous mix of retro synths, throbbing bass and lyrical savvy, the track captures Hana Elion and JJ Mitchell’s fresh, rules-breaking approach to pop. “Both paths to the same thing, balancing on shaky ground,” they sing in harmony. “Push back from the onset, close the door or open it.”

The “Nighttime Hunger” singers take a stance on the chorus. “I don’t wanna be the fool, bending over backwards for you.” Overcoats’ irresistible anthem now gets a remix from LA’s SASAMI. She brings percussion to the fore, steering “The Fool” further into alt-terrain without altering its essence. “We shaved our heads to this song, so we wanted to make a version that pops off a little more, that you can really dance and let go to,” Overcoats explain. “We’re huge fans of SASAMI and so psyched that she was the first to remix it.”

We’re very excited to premiere SASAMI’s remix below. If you want to add “The Fool” to your record collection, the duo is releasing a 7″ gatefold vinyl on December 6. It also includes new songs “Leave If You Wanna” and “Keep The Faith.” Order your copy via Loma Vista Recordings here.
