From Selena Gomez To Camila Cabello: All The Performances At The 2019 AMAs
Tonight (November 24) is the night of the 2019 American Music Awards, and it was a predictably star-studded affair. Taking place in Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater, the show also signified an excellent night for live music. And it all started with Selena Gomez who opened the evening with a medley of hits including the chart-topping “Lose You To Love Me” and “Look At Her Now.” Next up was Lizzo, who made the unexpected decision to perform “Jerome” instead of her more recognizable options “Truth Hurts” or “Good As Hell.” Dressed in a stunning ruffled gown, the diva served vocals for days. This is one of the risks that is going to pay off tonight and will hopefully give the track a boost. In a quick one-two punch, Thomas Rhett took the stage for a feel-good rendition of “Look What God Gave Her.”
After that Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes showed off their chemistry and teased us with another almost-kiss during a slinky version of “Señorita.” Later in the show Camila returned to bring current single “Living Proof.” Mere hours after dropping the official video, the visually stunning performance emerges as a clear highlight to the AMAs this year. But before that Kesha and Big Freedia hosted an epic dance party while belting out “Raising Hell.” That’s not even the best part, which would be the fact that the former K$ also belted out eternal classic “Tik Tok.” Seeing her do so while executing a kick line with her dancers is exactly what we needed in 2019.
Living legend Toni Braxton kept things interesting with a vocally superior rendition of “Unbreak My Heart.” Meanwhile, New Artist Of The Year winner Billie Eilish lit the stage on fire and made a socially conscious fashion statement during a performance of “all the good girls go to hell.” Halsey has been on a hot streak lately when it comes to awards show performances. But tonight she took it to the next level with a creative interpretation of the very underrated “Graveyard.” This will emerge as one of the night’s most unforgettable moments. The Jonas Brothers also heated things up with a predictably fun rendition of “Only Human,” and Green Day rocked out to a medley.
Despite some drama earlier this month, Artist Of The Decade recipient Taylor Swift pulled out all the stops with a career-spanning medley. Opening with a timely version of “The Man,” she preceded to treat the audience to a hit-filled setlist. That included a version of “Shake It Off” featuring Halsey and Camila before capping off the night with a Shawn Mendes-less take on “Lover” at the piano. Meanwhile Christina Aguilera and A Great Big World’s performance of “Fall On Me” was predictably sublime.
Dua Lipa has been upping her game this era. And tonight’s performance of “Don’t Start Now” was another striking moment. The same could be said for Post Malone’s mashup of “Circles” and “Take What You Want” featuring appearances from Travis Scott and Ozzy Osbourne. Then Shania Twain capped off the festivities with a medley of hits, the best of which being (of course) “Man! I Feel Like A Woman.” You can watch most of the performances here.
