Adam Lambert Transforms Cher’s “Believe” Into A Soaring Ballad
It’s not easy to interpret one of the most beloved bangers of the ’90s. It’s even harder to make it your own. However, that’s the magic trick Adam Lambert pulls with his cover of “Believe.” The Glamorous One first performed the song at the Kennedy Center Honors in August and brought Cher to tears with his heartfelt rendition. That performance immediately went viral and it was only a matter of time before we got a studio version. It arrives tonight (December 5) and sounds every bit as extraordinary as it did live.
The dance-pop anthem, which famously brought autotune to the mainstream, has been completely transformed into a ballad. It’s the perfect vehicle for Adam to showcase his powerful pipes, and he pulls the vocal trigger on the chorus over an elegant orchestral arrangement. It’s unclear if “Believe” will feature on VELVET: Side B. However, the probability is low given that it doesn’t really fit the retro-rock aesthetic of the project.
