The pop auteur's latest perfect single is an anthem for outsiders.

Allie X blesses New Music Friday with her most personal single to date. “Love Me Wrong,” a collaboration with Troye Sivan, is about feeling unseen by your otherwise loving parents. “Oh you love me, you put me to bed,” the Canadian pop star begins the song over OZGO’s ominous synths. “Yeah you love me, dress me to the nines.” Troye enjoys similar adoration — at least on a superficial level. “Oh you love me, you lose sleep over me,” he croons. “I know you love me, ’cause I’m there in your wallet.”

The collaborations then come together for the chorus: “Yeah, you love me wrong.” What inspired it? “‘Love Me Wrong is a very personal song for me, which deals with the confusion and hurt associated with familial love,” Allie X explained on Twitter. “Mostly taken from feelings I had when I was younger, this is a song about being misunderstood by the ones closest to you. You know that you they love you, but you feel it isn’t for the full person you are.” Listen to the extremely relatable “Love Me Wrong” below.
