Music fans, particularly of the ’80s and ’90s variety, were saddened to hear that Marie Fredriksson passed away yesterday (December 10) at the still very-young age of 61. The platinum-haired voice of Roxette succumbed to a lengthy battle with cancer — she was first diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2002 — that affected her vision and mobility, but never managed to keep her too far away from the stage. In the wake of the news, fans sought solace in the Swedish duo’s much-loved hits.

Roxette’s Greatest Hits album immediately crashed into the top 10 on iTunes, while fans (and radio stations) gravitated towards ballads with “It Must Have Been Love” and “Listen To Your Heart” experiencing huge surges on download and streaming services. It was a similar story on YouTube, with seven of the Swedish duo’s hits cracking their list of the day’s top 200 most-viewed videos. They included the two aforementioned ballads as well as “Spending My Time,” “The Look,” “Joyride,” “Fading Like A Flower” and “How Do You Do!”

If you’re looking for even more options, may I suggest revisiting “Dangerous,” “Dressed For Success,” “Sleeping In My Car,” “Wish I Could Fly,” “The Centre Of The Heart, “Reveal” and “She’s Got Nothing On (But The Radio).” Take comfort in Marie’s incredible vocals and Roxette’s era-defining pop hooks below.
