RAYE attempted to reignite a flame with her ex on dance-pop gem “Love Me Again” earlier this year. However, the UK hitmaker clearly learned a lesson since then. I say that based on new single “Please Don’t Touch” at least. Out today (December 13), the vulnerable club cut finds her taking steps to protect herself from heartbreak. “The thing about love, it ain’t simple enough. The thing about trust is it takes two of us,” she wisely sings to a potential partner over glistening beats courtesy of Fraser T. Smith.

That leads into her final request on the emotional chorus. “Please don’t touch me if you don’t mean it,” the “Stay (Don’t Go Away)” diva coos. “The space between our skin saying more than enough. But once you lay a finger it can’t be undone.” The end result comes off as fragile, earnest and utterly divine. If life is fair, this will become a breakout hit for RAYE who has been on an impressive hot streak for a while now.
