Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson arrived on the music scene back in the 1960s as a songwriter/producer and a performer pair. Having written songs for Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles, the pair joined Motown in 1966.

They went on to right hits like “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “I’m Every Woman.” Simultaneous to writing and producing, the pair also performed with groups, as solo artists, and as a duo. They married in 1974 and remained together until Nick passed in 2011.
