Adele’s ’25’ Predicted To Sell 2 Million Copies First Week By Industry Insiders
Adele’s 25 (due November 20) could go double platinum in less than a week. According to Hits Daily Double, industry insiders now predict an opening tally in the region of two million copies. That would rank as the second highest debut of all time behind NSYNC’s No Strings Attached, which sold 2.4 million copies in its first seven days of release back in 2000. The Brit’s third LP already has 250,000 preorders.
If the success of lead single “Hello” is any indication, 25 might just meet that eye-popping projection. The Greg Kurstin-produced ballad is on track to sell a million downloads in its first week, which obliterates the previous seven-day digital record held by Flo Rida. (“Right Round” sold 636,000 in 2009). It also broke streaming, VEVO and radio records. It almost goes without saying at this point that the song is expected to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
