Does it live up to the hype? We review Ariana Grande's 5th LP.

Ariana Grande is seeking at least $10 million in damages in a new lawsuit filed against Forever 21. The 26-year-old is suing the fashion brand because of an advertising campaign that appears to have been inspired by her “7 rings” video. In the suit, filed Monday (September 2), she cites several examples of ads utilizing a look-alike model on Instagram. In one, the brunette wears her hair in Ari’s signature ponytail. Paired with a headband adorned with two pink balls, it’s very similar to a style found in the visual. The accompanying text – “Gee thanks, just bought it” – also appears to allude to the lyrics.

Several other photos were provided as additional examples. According to the New York Times, representatives from Forever 21 reached out to the diminutive diva about setting up endorsements following the success of “thank u, next.” However, the deal fell apart during discussions regarding pay. After the failed attempt, these print photos appeared online in the earliest months of 2019. “The resemblance is uncanny and Forever 21’s intent was clear: to suggest to the viewing public that Ms. Grande endorsed Forever 21, its products, and was affiliated with Forever 21,” the lawsuit reads.

This is the latest in a string of bad news for the brand. Bloomberg recently reported that the company was considering filing for bankruptcy. Although they have declined to comment extensively on the lawsuit, they did share a statement with the NYT revealing they hoped to resolve the complaint. “We are hopeful that we will find a mutually agreeable resolution and can continue to work together in the future.”
