Flashback: Britney Spears' 'Criminal'
Britney's 'Criminal' didn't deserve to flop. We look back on the underrated bop.

Some things will never change. Even though Britney Spears is currently in the middle of an indefinite professional hiatus due to her father’s ill health, stans are still desperately hunting for an update on new music. We haven’t heard a word from the 37-year-old since she commemorated the twentieth anniversary of her debut album …Baby One More Time on social media last month. Her very iconic Instagram has been shuttered, and it’s been weeks since the paparazzi captured photos of her out and about. However, that hasn’t stopped news from leaking out about the status of her tenth studio album.

Shortly after the cancellation (postponement?) of the living legend’s new Vegas show Domination, her team threw us a bone by confirming that Justin Tranter was working as the album’s executive producer. The prolific hit machine responsible for “Slumber Party” and Selena Gomez’s “Bad Liar” offered a tantalizing hint at the sonic direction on Twitter. “Chill bops. Full on bops,” he wrote. “The whole spectrum of bops!” Yesterday (February 8), stans went into hyperdrive thanks to the latest announcement. It appears Britney has reunited with Danja to work on new music. The super-producer is beloved for his work on 2007’s much-lauded Blackout.

Responsible for hits including the eternally iconic “Gimme More,” “Break The Ice” and “Get Naked (I Got A Plan),” he reunited with the Pop Princess on Circus. There he was responsible for “Kill The Lights” amongst other bops. Since then, fans have been desperate to see the duo work together again. And it looks like it may finally be happening. The news comes straight from the producer’s Twitter account. “Welcome to the jungle,” he ominously wrote yesterday. That doesn’t tell us much. But, he signed off with “#B10.” Many assume this is his confirmation that he is currently submitting music to the project. It comes after it was reported he had registered “multiple tracks” recorded with Britney Spears earlier this year.

It remains to be seen if any of this will make the final tracklist. However, right now it is nice to dream that we may be getting a modern take on one of Brit’s most beloved albums in the near future. Now if only we could get a single to tide us over while we wait. In the meantime, check out Danja’s apparent confirmation below!
