It is truly shaping up to be a week for high-profile photoshoots. Yesterday Selena Gomez, Rihanna, Ashlee Simpson and Lauren Jauregui hopped online to share pics from their latest projects. Today (September 5) Charli XCX joins the fray with a spread for Crack magazine. Shot by Yavez Anthonio, the 26-year-old glammed up the pages of the publication’s latest edition. Posing under stark orange lights, she keeps things simple on the cover in a black dress and chunky diamond necklace. She switches things up by posing in a diamond-encrusted top in front of a vibrant sunset. But perhaps the most playful moment comes when she poses in a rainbow-hued bodysuit. It’s very rocker-chic and perfectly in line with the “Girls Night Out” superstar’s aesthetic.

The accompanying interview hits on the highs and lows of Charli’s career. Reflecting on last year’s mixtapes, Number 1 Angel and Pop 2, she took a moment to gush about everything she pulled off. “Sorry to sound… arrogant, I suppose, but they’re so good, those mixtapes,” she said. “No one else could do what we do. No one else can really capture that energy.” Although the siren said she was happy with the artist she has become, she did acknowledge that it can be frustrating that she hasn’t reached the level of mega-success she deserves. However, she is aware of why she isn’t there just yet. “But to be commercially successful on that level there are sacrifices that you have to make – and I’m not really ready to make those sacrifices.”

On the flip side, we can rest assured that new music will keep coming. The prolific hitmaker revealed that she thrives in a busy schedule. “I’m a fucking wreck when I’m not doing anything. One day [off]? Cool. Two days? Cool. Three days? I’m freaking out. That’s when I’ll start ringing people and sending a thousand emails. Sometimes I feel good when I’m stressed, when there’s pressure – I love the fucking drama of what I do.” I guess that explains the jam-packed summer we have had. Since May, Charli has dropped a handful of solo tracks (my fav is “No Angel”) and teamed up with some famous friends for a series of high-profile collabs (Tove Lo’s “Bitches” is a must-hear).
