Get Ready To Dance: Ciara’s “Level Up” Is An Absolute Banger

Ciara has another club anthem on her hands. The R&B icon has been pretty quiet on the musical front since unveiling her 6th LP, Jackie, in 2015. That changes today (July 18) with the release of her new single, “Level Up.” After teasing her comeback with a seriously sexy photo shoot on Instagram and encouraging fans to “get ready to dance,” she followed through on promises with another banger. In the age of tropical-tinged EDM and moody R&B, the 32-year-old defies expectations by remaining firmly in her comfort zone. Over a frosty production courtesy of J.R. Rotem she fronts another dance floor filler in the style of 2010’s “Gimme Dat” or 2013’s “I’m Out.” Delivering rapid-fire lyrics and a funky beat, it is an undeniable listen.

After counting herself down on the track, the “Dance Like We’re Making Love” siren chants “level up” as the beat kicks in. Moving on from mistakes in her past, the track overflows with self-confidence as it looks to the future. “Them old mistakes are gone. I won’t do them no more. That’s old news, there’s new news. I done did that before. I turned them into something, my comeback on one hundred,” she breezily announces. “I just keep elevating. No losses, just upgrading,” she adds. The hitmaker does just that in the official video, which she premiered on the TraceMe app.

“Okay. Remember what I told you. Be your own boss. Love yourself. Get up and dance. Level up,” she urges. After sharing some teasers, it was clear that her latest would be another intricately choreographed blockbuster. And the final product more than lives up to expectations. Surrounded by a crew of dancers, CiCi rides the fierce beat with ease. We have seen what she is capable of on her own (the “Ride” video is absolutely iconic), and this takes things to another dimension. All things considered, it looks like we will be getting another album from the diva in the near future, and that is a very good thing. Listen to “Level Up” below and check out the video here! We’ll update the post with a streaming link once it is added on YouTube as well.
