In preparation for our liveblogging of the American Idol finale, we’ve been scouring the Internet for pre-show buzz on tonight’s big, huge, blowout show. In addition to the rampant confusion over which Perry–Steve or Joe–would be performing this evening, we found a few links that you should keep in mind while watching tonight’s show with us at 8 ET:

– Is anyone even going to watch the finale, given that the outcome was pretty much decided when a syrupy ballad won the songwriting competition? [Reality TV Magazine]
– And that the finalists–including a Playmate-doted Sanjaya–apparently found out who the winner was at breakfast this morning? [Idolforums, reg. req.]
– In an effort to scramble for answers, a Fox executive is claiming that viewership only seems to be down, and that’s because of DVRs. [reality blurred]
– Tonight’s episode: A Fantasia-free affair–but Ruben will be in attendance. Hello, ratings spike! [TMZ]

kbelll.jpgLast night saw the two-episode series finale of Veronica Mars, a very, very good show that recently took some very, very annoying plot turns (many of which, alas, wound up going unresolved). But one thing remained consistent throughout Mars‘ three-season run: Even when the show made for frustrating TV, it was always a good listen.

– Despite the fact that police clocked her blood-alcohol level at .08, Eve claims she was not driving drunk when she wrecked her car in Hollywood last month, which pits the impeccable word of the L.A. cops against the equally credible word of a sports-car loving celebrity. More »

So what sort of hack-a-lack music-writer shorthand should be use to describe Deserter,” the latest single from Matthew Dear? Hmm. “Knob-twiddling electro-pop”? Nah. “Laptop-fueled dream-weavery”? We don’t even know what that means! More »
