Pop Perspective: Demi's "Cool For The Summer"
Each Idolator editor reviews and rates Demi's new single out of 10.

The third taste of Demi Lovato’s Confident LP (due October 16) is a gritty ballad called “Stone Cold.” Co-written by Swedes Laleh and Gustaf Thörn, the track plays like Adele’s “Someone Like You” for millennials. There’s a similar mix of gut-wrenching resignation and passive-aggressive promises, but it skewers much younger with lyrics like these: “Stone cold, stone cold — you’re dancing with her while I’m staring at my phone.”

The 23-year-old uploaded a live version of “Stone Cold” this afternoon (October 7) and it showcases the brilliant instrument that is Demi’s voice considerably better than uptempo jams “Cool For The Summer” and “Confident.” I love the Disney diva in power ballad mode (see “Skyscraper,” “Warrior” and “Nightingale”), so this is something of a treat. Watch her stunning performance up top. The track arrives as an instant pre-order download on Friday.
