The 2018 American Music Awards just got exponentially more iconic. Yesterday (October 4), Jennifer Lopez revealed that she would take the stage for a performance of a new single on the big night. The mysterious song will be included on the soundtrack for J.Lo’s forthcoming movie, Second Act. The film drops in December and features the likes of Vanessa Hudgens (can you even imagine if the single is a collab between the pop legends?!). “BIG NEWS,” she wrote alongside the announcement before promising “It’s gonna be an AMAZING night.” This is obviously exciting. The last time the “Dinero” diva took the stage at an awards show was to deliver a breathtaking masterclass on pop showmanship at the 2018 Video Music Awards in August. Filling her 10-minute set with a bevy of hits, incredible choreographed feats and gorgeous costumes, the icon generously showed a new generation of music fans how it is done. Hopefully she’ll do the same when she performs in Los Angeles on October 9.

She is joining an already star-studded list of performers. Taylor Swift will open the evening with a rendition of “I Did Something Bad,” which is sparking rumors that the 28-year-old plans to drop another track off Reputation. Mariah Carey will perform her lush new single, “With You,” and Shawn Mendes and Zedd will grace fans with a debut performance of their “Lost In Japan” remix. Although I was praying to the pop gods that Camila Cabello would perform fan-favorite bop “She Loves Control” on the big night, it looks like she is preparing to show some love to her earnest ballad “Consequences.” Other performances to keep an eye peeled for include Dua Lipa’s “Electricity,” Benny Blanco and co’s “Eastside” and Ciara’s sure-to-be expertly choreographed “Level Up.” The latter features an appearance from rap legend Missy Elliott. It will also be a night of tributes. Organizers arranged one for the Queen Of Soul, Aretha Franklin, while Panic! At The Disco will show some love to Queen. Clearly J.Lo is in good company.
