Last week, when Katy Perry dropped “Swish Swish,” the third single from her forthcoming album Witness, heated speculation immediately began to fly as to whether the feisty pop gem is an answer to Taylor Swift’s 2015 diss track “Bad Blood.” Well… the 32-year-old recently joined James Corden for some Carpool Karaoke and she took the opportunity to finally tell her side of the story. “She started it and it’s time for her to finish it!”

“It’s about backing dancers! It’s so crazy. Okay, so there’s like three backing dancers that went on tour with her, right?” Perry told the late-night host as they cruised about town. “And they asked me before they went on tour if could go and I was like, ‘Yeah, of course! I’m not on a record cycle and you get to work and she’s great and all that. But I will be on a record cycle probably in about a year. So be sure to put a 30-day contingency in your contracts so you can get out if you wanna join me when I say I’m going back on.'”

“So that year came up, right, and I texted all of them because I’m very close with them and I told them, ‘Look, just FYI I’m about to start and I want to put the word out there.’ And they said, ‘Okay, well we’re going to go talk to management about it.’ And they did and they got fired.” Perry went on to explain that she attempted to sort it out with the leader of the Super Squad herself, Miss Swift, but the “Shake It Off” singer wouldn’t even open the lines of communication.

So, if there’s any doubt left that Katy had set her rights on Swift when she wrote, “Your game is tired, you should retire, you’re ’bout as cute as an old coupon. Expired,” we can probably put them to rest! Watch the informative drive up top.
