Could Kelly Rowland’s ‘Chasing Destiny’ Girl Group Actually Be (Really) Good?

Kelly Rowland has really outdone herself on Chasing Destiny, a making-the-band reality series aimed at discovering the world’s next chart-conquering girl group. The idea seemed a little played out initially (I’m suffering from serious talent show fatigue), but the BET show is set apart by the “Motivation” singer’s nurturing approach and the fact that finalists Shyann Roberts, Kristal Lyndriette, Brienna DeVlugt, Ashly Williams and Gabrielle Carreiro can really sing.

The still-unnamed fivesome released their first promo pic today (June 1) and they already look like stars. “I felt like there was a void for a girls group in the music industry and this is something that I have wanted to do since Destiny’s Child’s Destiny Fulfilled tour,” Kelly told the New York Post. “There were so many girl groups back in the day and now there are only two,” she continues, referring to Fifth Harmony and Little Mix. “I want to show that women can get back to making money together.”

The group’s debut single will be released by Epic Records later this year. If they pick the right song, there’s no reason why they can’t shake things up. If you need further proof of their potential, check out the ladies’ brilliant cover of Drake’s “Hotline Bling” below.
