Lana's Witchcraft
Lana Del Rey outs herself as a witch for the sake of the political climate, while Azealia Banks calls her out.

Lana Del Rey surprised with “Love,” an uplifting song from an artist perhaps best known for wallowing, feeling right on time despite its overall nostalgic feel.

Based on her latest interview, “Love” is also a good indication of what to expect from her new album. Speaking to BBC Radio 2’s Jo Whiley, she explained how the follow-up to 2015’s Honeymoon was influenced by our current political climate.

“I started out thinking that the whole record was gonna have a sort of a ’50s-’60s feeling, kind of some kind of Shangri-Las, early Joan Baez influences. But I don’t know, as the climate kept on getting more heated politically, I found lyrically everything was just directed towards that. So because of that, the sound just got really updated, and I felt like it was more wanting to talk to the younger side of the audience that I have. I guess it’s a little more socially aware. It’s kind of a global feeling.”

Lana also happened to be in the studio with Miles Kane of The Rascals and The Last Shadow Puppets, creating “something else for fun.” Listen to the BBC Radio 2 interview about her new music below.
