Lana Del Rey’s “I Wish I Was Dead” Saga Sparks Response From Frances Bean Cobain

Frances Bean Cobain, daughter of the late Kurt Cobain, speaks out on recent comments that Lana Del Rey made to The Guardian – sparking yet another response on the matter from the Ultraviolence diva herself.

In an interview that she’s since dismissed, Del Rey admitted that she found the early deaths of Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse to be glamorous – part of their enduring appeal. (She just turned 28, so she’s outlived both of them. Cobain was only a year old when her father killed himself in 1994.) “I wish I was dead already!” she said.

“The death of young musicians isn’t something to romanticize,” Cobain said on Twitter, directly to Del Rey. “I’ll never know my father because he died young and it becomes a desirable feat because people like you think it’s ‘cool.’ Well, it’s fucking not. Embrace life, because you only get one life. The people you mentioned wasted that life. Don’t be one of those people.”

After one Del Rey fan accused Cobain of attacking her, she added, “You’re too talented to waste it away.” Hours later, Del Rey responded.

It’s tough to tell whether Cobain caught wind before or after Guardian writer Tim Jonze‘s defense, complete with audio. Either way, to their increased benefit, though, public figures like Cobain and Del Rey are learning that they can use social networks to speak their minds, without fear of being misinterpreted.
