Lana Del Rey Wrote Two Songs For Tim Burton’s ‘Big Eyes’ Movie Soundtrack

Lana Del Rey (a.k.a. the reigning queen of film soundtracks) will provide two songs for Tim Burton‘s upcoming project, Big Eyes. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the singer co-wrote and sung the title track and “I Can Fly.” Larry Karaszewski, one of the film’s producers, said this about the brooding “Shades Of Cool” diva: “Women in particular seem to get the movie, and Lana really got the movie. The whole thing is about a woman who can’t find her voice. Lana’s song expresses what Margaret is feeling so perfectly, it’s like a soliloquy of her inner thoughts.”

The Margaret he is referring to is Margaret Keane, an iconic American artist whose big-eyed paintings of children in the ’50s and ’60s were falsely credited to her husband Walter. THR also reports that it is possible one of Del Rey’s tracks could lead to an Oscar nomination. Well, let’s hope they are correct! No one wants a repeat of the unfair (and propaganda related) snub that happened with The Great Gatsby‘s “Young & Beautiful” in 2013.

Along with Big Eyes and The Great Gatsby, the singer has also provided her chilling vocals to this year’s Maleficent — which featured her haunting version of “Once Upon A Dream.” Tim Burton is known for quirky and dark movies, so this pairing is a match made in heaven (or hell — depending on how you look at it). Look out for Big Eyes when it releases on Christmas Day.
