Lorde reveals how the trusted pop maestro would have rewritten the 'Melodrama' single.

Shortly after premiering “Sober” at a pre-Coachella party, Lorde used the actual festival stage to debut yet another song off Melodrama. This time she sang “Homemade Dynamite,” where, with its mentions of drinks and wry flirtations, the album’s backstory — a single house party, unfolding with each track — takes shape.

“Let’s let things come out of the woodwork / I’ll give you my best side, tell you all my best lies / Yeah, awesome, right?”

Lorde just explained Melodrama‘s conceit to The New York Times Magazine. “With a party, there’s that moment where a great song comes on and you’re ecstatic,” she says, “and then there’s that moment later on where you’re alone in the bathroom, looking in the mirror, you don’t think you look good, and you start feeling horrible.”
