M.I.A. vs. The VMAs
M.I.A. accuses the MTV Video Music Awards of being "sexist," "racist" and "classist."

M.I.A. has released the first of two versions of “Bird Song,” off her upcoming fifth album AIM.

This one, by rapper, producer and DJ Blaqstarr, is ominous despite its vibrant instrumentation and Nelly lyrical references. That is mostly because M.I.A. barely raps above a whisper, as she boasts of going higher than a drone and checks for planes in the sky.

Despite it being labeled as a “remix,” Blaqstarr’s version is the one that appears in AIM, according to Pitchfork. This is his second production credit on AIM so far, after co-producing “Go Off” with Skrillex.

The second version of “Bird Song,” where M.I.A. reunites with Diplo, is still forthcoming. For now, listen to the original below.
