Nicki Minaj Holds Court In Majestic “Ganja Burn” Video
Nicki Minaj indulges conspiracy theorists in the prologue to her “Ganja Burn” video. “Once upon a time in a world unknown… there lived a queen,” it begins. “One day, her enemies all came together to hold a secret meeting and concocted a plan to take the generous queen down.” This would seem to be a reference to the absurd Twitter theory that the music business (particularly Cardi B and her label) is somehow plotting the rapper’s demise. However, the “Chun Li” hitmaker makes it clear that she isn’t going anywhere.
“What they perceived as death was a deep sleep,” the prologue continues. “Once the generous queen had enough of her rest, she began to arise… [and] her enemies were all put to death.” That might be as subtle as sledgehammer, but the video itself, directed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, strikes the perfect note. Nicki looks positively regal in the gorgeously shot video, which delivers the classiest styling and photography of the 35-year-old’s career. In fact, the “Ganja Burn” video is the best thing to come out of the Queen era to date. Watch in awe up top.
