Hold on to your weaves because Charli XCX and Troye Sivan are gearing up to snatch them. Today the pair announced plans to unveil a joint single called “1999,” and it drops this Friday (October 5). Taking to social media, they rolled out the news via a cute exchange. “Hey Troye,” the “Girls Night Out” siren wrote. “Do you wanna go back?????” “Back where,” the “Dance To This” crooner asked. Clarification came with the final news and the striking single cover. “1999 OUT THIS FRIDAY – BY UR FAV POP LEGENDS @TROYESIVAN AND MEEEEE,” Charli wrote. “let’s fuckin ride,” Troye replied. On the cover the pair channel the 1999 smash film, The Matrix. Posing in all-black leather against a neon green background, they serve a fierce look.

“1999” sounds like it is going to be a nostalgic smash, and rumor has it that a video is also on the way. On Genius, it has been billed as Charli’s first global single since she rolled out her dreamy “Boys” in 2017. Hopefully the accompanying video is equally iconic. However, the pop icon has graciously released a series of delightful smashes over the course of the year. “I am going to release a lot music this year. and a lot of videos. you’re gonna be so fucking sick of me,” she teased on Twitter. Since then she’s dropped a handful of tightly produced solo tracks (of which “No Angel” is my fav) and brilliant collabs (if you haven’t heard Tove Lo and co’s “Bitches” yet you aren’t living).

Meanwhile Troye is currently touring North America on The Bloom Tour. It is in support of his critically acclaimed album of the same name. He has also dropped a string of singles over the course of the year. Hopefully the pair’s latest will dominate the charts. Check out the single cover below!
