A Jewel-Toned Delight: Rihanna Dazzles In A New Shoot For ‘Garage’ Magazine
Rihanna reaffirms her status as one of pop’s most fashionable icons with a new spread for Garage magazine. Last month the 30-year-old draped herself in florals and luxurious couture for an avant-garde shoot with British Vogue. Today (September 4), she hopped online to reveal that she was covering Garage’s ‘The Human Future’ September issue. Shot by acclaimed photographer, Deana Lawson, she dazzles with yet another vibrant spread. Mixing vintage heirlooms including a striking petal-pink rose bolero with modern pieces, she stuns on the cover. The remaining photos are equally gorgeous. Dressed in lush jewel-tones and chic silhouettes, the “Man Down” siren shows off her impeccable taste.
Stylist Carlos Nazario worked on the shoot and shared some details about his inspiration. In particular, he explained that he wanted to try to keep things fresh for Rihanna. “Ri is somebody who sees so much, and she, obviously, is constantly seeing current season samples,” he said. “I felt like it wasn’t that exciting for her to only wear things that I’m sure she’s familiar with, you know?” He accomplished his goal by working in some vintage pieces. “I think her comfort zone is to push it, right? I don’t think she feels comfortable when she feels like she’s worn it before,” he said. Citing phrases such as “Caribbean queen” as inspirational, he added that his goal was to create the perfect union between hitmaker and photographer.
“But I did want to give her something a little bit different. I wanted to take all the elements — their grace and presence, and Rihanna’s fashion energy, and Deana’s particular style of photography — and we wanted to create something that felt new.” Mark Guiducci, Garage’s editor in chief, commented on the union between Rihanna and Lawson in a statement shared with The Fader. “Rihanna is perhaps our most human of pop idols — unguarded, miraculously vital, perfect in her imperfections — making her the consummate subject for Deana,” he explained.
There is no word yet on what the accompanying interview will cover, but it will hopefully delve into plans for Ri’s ninth studio album. It is rumored to reintroduce a dancehall sound to her musicality, and rumor has it that it is on the way shortly. We’ll have a better idea when the issue arrives this Thursday (September 6).
