Your Annual Shania Twain Update
Shania Twain's fifth album has been a (really) long time coming, but there's progress.

Hell just froze over and pigs are flying through sky above us! After a 15-year break and multiple postponed comebacks, Shania Twain will release her 5th LP in May. Just don’t expect campy country-pop anthems like “That Don’t Impress Me Much” and “Don’t Be Stupid (You Know I Love You).” The 51-year-old is doing things differently this time. “I told anyone getting involved musically to forget about my other records,” the diva told Rolling Stone. “I didn’t want it to be related to [ex-husband Mutt Lange’s] productions at all. I wanted a more organic approach.”

“I was reflecting on the darkness,” Shania concludes. As such, she tackles issues like the breakdown of her marriage and fighting against pain. The former is called “Who’s Gonna Be Your Girl?” and is “about feeling unappreciated and knowing that you are secondary… having to live with someone that has different priorities and accepting that you’re not the most important thing in a person’s life.” As for the latter, “the fighter in me wrote that song,” she explains. “I was thinking of a boxer taking a swing, or a baby first coming out with his eyes and fists closed. They can’t even see yet and they’re swinging with their eyes closed.”

There’s another song called “We Got Something They Don’t,” but it’s not boastful in the way that you would expect. “I was sick in a hotel room and there was Major League Baseball going on just below the hotel in the dome,” the country queen reveals. “I was bummed out that I couldn’t go there and enjoy the game, so I wrote this song about the winning team and what I would feel like and I just got into the spirit of the game.” Excitingly, the first single from the album is due in March. As much as I’d love more country-pop anthems, it will just be nice to her Shania’s voice back on the radio. Read the full interview here.
