A Moment Of Triumph! Stream Tinashe’s Hit-Filled ‘Joyride’ LP
The day is here! Tinashe’s highly anticipated and oft-delayed Joyride finally arrived today (April 13). After two years of setbacks, the 25-year-old makes a bold statement with her latest LP. She explored uncharted territory with her innovative 2016 release, Nightride, and is back on the scene with another collection of promising potential hits.
We have already heard a trio of tracks from the project including the Offset-assisted lead “No Drama.” After a brief foray into pristine pop territory with the likes of her saccharine “Flame,” the single signified a return to the harder production and slick club beats of cuts like “Company.” She teamed up with Future for a slice of downtempo alt-pop on the practically perfect “Faded Love” and joined up with Ty Dolla $ign and French Montana on last week’s naughty anthem, “Me So Bad.” Considering the heavy presence of features thus far, it is worth noting that the rest of the project only includes one additional collaboration. The R&B star invites Little Dragon on “Stuck With Me,” which boasts an impressive beat and some breathy vocals.
Of the remaining songs, a clear highlight is the growling title track. After almost losing it to Rihanna’s ANTI, the siren recently opened up about buying the track back. “We created the track, I wanted it for my project, then all of a sudden I found out — I was told — that she had purchased the whole concept and beat for [ANTI]. Eventually when that didn’t come out on her project, I was like, ‘yup … still want it!’ I named my album after it,” she said in an interview. The decision is worthwhile. Although it is easy to imagine the “Work” icon on the moody production, it is even better in Tinashe’s very capable hands.
Amidst a collection of interludes (possibly a tribute to Tinashe’s idol – the legendary Janet Jackson) other potential hits include the more pop-leaning “Ooh La La.” No, it is not a cover of Britney Spears’ track of the same name. Instead, over a sugary beat, she drops some slick verses and cleverly layers her vocals to create a true earworm. “No Contest” is a self-assured serving with another tight production, and album closer “Fires And Flames” is a stunning piano ballad. In all, it is entirely possible that the budding superstar will manage to find a well-deserved hit amongst the collection. Stream Joyride in full below!
