leighton-cyndiGossip girl-turned-recording-artist Leighton Meester sidled up next to the iconic Cyndi Lauper last month during the 2009 mtvU Woodie Awards, where the pop pair presented the Woodie Of The Year to Kings Of Leon. Cyndi accepted the statue on the band’s behalf.

But later in the evening, while Lauper was mingling with Meester and blinding the other attendees with the not-so-true colors of her platinum blonde pompadour, some brave young dude waltzed right up, snatched KOL’s Woodie from Cyn’s clutches and walked off. Catch the video of Leighton Meester and Cyndi Lauper doing a total WTF as the award is stolen after the jump. More »

taylor_momsen_l_42368Uh oh, there’s trouble a-brewin’ behind the scenes of Gossip Girl between aspiring double threats Leighton Meester and Taylor Momsen. Hollywood Life reports that Taylor’s miffed that GG producers have prominently featured Leighton’s musical output (her own “Somebody to Love” and Cobra Starship’s “Good Girls Go Bad”) on the show—in addition to premiering the video for “Somebody to Love”—while they haven’t bothered to reach for any of the music yet recorded by Momsen’s band, The Pretty Reckless. Truth be told, Taylor should be more upset about the horrifying clothes the costume department forces her to wear on the show, but hey, she’s picking her battles. More »

leightonxmasAmong the slew of new releases today—Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Susan Boyle and Adam Lambert, to name a few—comes the A Very Special Christmas Volume 7 compilation. Yes, it’s chock full of the usual holiday suspects. But hark! AVSC 7 also features a cover of the yuletide classic, “Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)” by Gossip Girl starlet Leighton Meester.

So will Blair Waldorf’s rendition of the holiday fave become as celebrated as the Darlene Love original and the 1987 cover by U2 (which, incidentally, appeared on the very first A Very Special Christmas album)? Have a listen to a clip of it after the jump and see what you think of her prospects. More »

Robin Thicke either drew inspiration from The White Stripes or a James Bond credits sequence when creating his album cover for Sex Therapy, out December 15. Bright, bold, and with various ladies’ hands pulling his clothes off? We approve. This is how you do a classy album cover, Chris Brown. More »

And so today brings the final nominees list for the People’s Choice Awards, a roundup of the some of the less-challenging artists and material from the past year or so. And—yippee!—this was the first year that “we, the people” were allowed to have somewhat of a say in the nominees. But despite this privilege, snubs still abound in the music categories. More »

Leighton Meester Has Been Around The World

58430858“Somebody To Love” is the first track to leak out from the debut album by Gossip Girl starlet Leighton Meester, and the Robin Thicke-assisted song is an odd choice for a first single; it’s a subtle track that was obviously meant to sound really good during the waning hours of clubbing, with its washed-out, sparkly backdrop and Meester going on about being so bored with the world’s romantic offerings in a barely enunciated murmur. I was kind of lukewarm on it at first, but it’s turned into quite the grower! It also makes me wonder if her album is basically going to consist of her shape-shifting her persona to fit in with whatever guests she’s wrangled into each song, since “Somebody” is pretty much the antithesis of her Cobra Starship collab “Good Girls Gone Bad.” Clip after the jump.
