If Tuesday night was the epitome of all that is irritating and mediocre about CMJ, last night was somewhat redemptive, though I still think the organizers should just gather the best acts and put them in one place. But hey, the evening was so pleasant, in fact, that I don’t even have any bingo squares to mark off!

UPDATED: Mirah’s SoundScan Success Revealed!

mirah.jpgSo “Fruits Of Your Garden” by the brainy-sensitive singer-songwriter Mirah debuted at No. 64 on SoundScan’s digital-tracks chart this week, selling 22,000 units after moving not even a dozen the week prior. Reasons behind this staggering leap are hard to find through the usual sources (by which I mean “Googling the title to see if any Yahoo! Answers pages come up”). Anyone know what the deal is? (And whatever the reason, I’m really glad that Mirah–not to mention her label, the indie stalwart K Records–is getting the extra scratch.) UPDATE: The song was on So You Think You Can Dance (thanks, Cortney!), in a performance that caused the judges to freak the f out. Video after the jump.

Idolator’s Top Five Breakup Songs: Guaranteed To Be “I Will Survive”-Free

AskMen.com recently compiled a list of their top ten breakup songs, including the not-really-about-a-break-up “No Woman, No Cry,” “Achy Breaky Heart,” the freaking Cake cover of “I Will Survive,” and the heinous “I (Just) Died in Your Arms” by Cutting Crew. They had the decency to put “Go Your Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac at No. 2, but most of the list is pretty dreary–even for breakup songs! So I thought I’d make my own.
