Producer Rodney Jerkins (aka “Darkchild!”) posted a 50-song medley of some of his biggest hits on his blog, and—damn!—talk about a 8o mph joyride down memory lane.
All of the usual suspects are there (Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine,” Pussycat Dolls’ “When I Grow Up,” Jennifer Lopez’s “If You Had My Love,” Destiny’s Child’s “Say My Name”). But there are also the Ohhhh…right! moments, as when we suddenly remembered that Rodney produced the original version of Whitney Houston’s “It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay” before Thunderpuss got their hands on it.
“Thanks to the fans for all the love and support over the past 15 years,” Jerkins wrote on his blog. “This is a gift from me to you! I hope you enjoy it.”
And fear not—even the Spice Girls’ “Holler” made the cut. Have a listen to the “Darkchild Single Medley 50” after the jump! More »
R & B singer Monica’s forthcoming show on BET—simply titled Monica, and debuting Oct. 27—will only have her raising two kids instead of the spiky-haired Kate’s eight, but she’ll also be working on her long-in-the-works album and trying to launch a clothing line, which I guess are supposed to compensate? R & B singer Monica has been working on her follow-up to her 2006 album The Makings Of Me for some time, long enough to even spawn a reality show about its process. The record, Still Standing, is as of this moment set to come out in October, and the first single “Lemme Know” is a Jazmine Sullivan-penned track that’s produced by Missy Elliott. The song’s got a fair amount of swing to its gauntlet-throwing, although I can’t help that it would actually be better (sigh) without Elliott’s vocal presence, since her whooping in the background and semi-uninspired verse about finding a man just drag the song down. (I really, really miss the weird Missy. Can we blame Twitter for that?) The track is after the jump. More »
