Noel Gallagher has big bold plans for Oasis’ upcoming album, Dig Up Your Soul. “I wanted to write music that had a groove; not songs that followed that traditional pattern of verse, chorus and middle eight,” he tells the NME. “I wanted a sound that was more hypnotic; more driving. Songs that would draw you in, in a different way. Songs that you would maybe have to connect to–to feel.” Wow, just when you think these guys are going to be stuck repeating former glories, they come with something fresh, unprecedented and not remotely Beatlesque. That title, though…Dig Up Your Soul. It reminds me of another album title that went “Dig something something…word that rhymes with ‘Soul.’ ” Hmmm. I just can’t place it…
Oasis is signing a new three-album deal with Sony BMG, the company currently distributing the band’s label, Big Brother Recordings. According to their manager, the new deal allows the band to “team up with the crème of both the independent and major sectors worldwide to build on Oasis’ already considerable international success.” That would be great news if we were talking about something other than the release of three more Oasis albums. How has a group that’s threatened to break up so many times have survived so damn long? Let’s take a look at songs from their previous three full-lengths–Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants, Heathen Chemistry, and Don’t Believe The Truth–to see what we can expect in the future.

This summer’s various Radiohead prank sites are all but forgotten in the wake of the unsightly blogosphere pants-messing over In Rainbows. But before “do a Radiohead” entered the modern lexicon and we all started wishing for a ball-peen to the digits before hearing the words “pay-what-you-will” ever again, there was radioheadlp7.com. The mysterious site featured a clock that portentously counted to Sept. 29, and it had Radiohead fans without day jobs waiting intently for some scrap of news on the new Radiohead LP. And when the big day rolled around, it revealed… a Rickroll. How we LOL’d! Then the site laid dormant–until now, when the hoaxmaster revealed himself as…a member of Oasis?
