Following all of the hubbub over AT&T snipping Pearl Jam’s brief Bush bash from its Lollapalooza broadcast, to which the communications conglomerate quickly ‘fessed up with a blame-shifting mea culpa, an e-mail was circulated to a number of news outlets earlier today that claims that this isn’t the first time the company has gotten an itchy bleeping finger when artists have brought up politics and the president:
Lollapalooza non-attendees who tuned into the live stream of the show on the AT&T Blue Room the other night didn’t only miss the chance to swelter in the Chicago heat, they missed a bit of the Pearl Jam set that was captured above: An overzealous “content monitor” who was watching Pearl Jam’s Lollapalooza performance on Sunday night bleeped out anti-George Bush statements that Eddie Vedder threw into into the band’s performance of Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick In The Wall.”
Sure, I have a long-standing affection for Pearl Jam, but Eddie Vedder just sang “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” during this afternoon’s Mets-Cubs game at Wrigley Field, and he somehow managed to turn the song into a freaking dirge. More »
